A sub forum for games might be a good idea. For now the game threads are just all mixed in with other stuff in Randomness Inc. No big deal, just an idea.

EDIT:  Just to clarify, by 'games' I mean Word Association, Ban Above User, Market Game, Lyrics Game - the-poster-above-me type stuff.

Maybe, but if we take the games out of 'Random Inc' there really wouldn't bee much left in there perhaps - besides, while I get your point, as it stands at the moment we have probably just about as many subforums as we can handle - too much more and it will just be overcrowded. Of course I could be wrong and Sarah may agree one more wont hurt. I do get the point it's a bit all-over-the-place in there as it is but it basically is the thread for 'whatever' (or whatever else does not fit in the other subforums). I think personally if we get overcrowded and choked with games I dont see why branching off into another area would be all bad. At least it gives us something to think about in the future. Idea taken on board, thanks Jess biggrin.gif

If Random Inc gets choked with games like "A-Z of Song Names" I will make another subforum for it. But for the time being, I think that there are enough places for stuff and like Ravi said, if the games go, then Random Inc might be too empty.

Speaking of sub forums, Can you make one where we can just talk about songs and not the band? Or is it too much to ask? I don't want to ask for too much.

Do you mean songs pertaining to one band in particular or all songs in general?
And do you want others to rate them or just introduce / recommend them to others?

I'm thinking if you want to talk about one band in particular then The Stereo would ideally be the place to tell us about them. Seeing as how we already have that and the 'what are you listening to right now?' threads, we do have or will have a kind of crossover happening with another subforum about songs.

Not only that but where do we put it? Remember we already have Random (with 'A-Z of bands/songs' etc) and The Stereo (with bands, clips etc?) that both touch on things like this already. While I'd be inclined to just create a general post for discussion of ALL songs into one thread and post in The Stereo, it depends on what you're intending with this subforum - we don't want a double-up happening between the 'what are you listening to...' thread and this new one where people just talk about songs - if that happens we'd have to merge or get rid of one most likely. As it is the site is already starting to look a bit choked in my humble opinion, pretty soon we might have to start shifting things around again to make the site (at least the home page) more streamline in some fashion. We'll discuss it and see what we can come up with =)

Well we've already had a thread about someone asking about a song in the stereo and I allowed it. I only closed it because I thought it was rather pointless remaining open, so I don't see why the stereo can't be used as a forum about songs as well.

Sponge and I discussed this further in PMs. Gave him the go-ahead to create a thread in The Stereo sub-forum should he still feel that way inclined.

More a question than a request - but why is randomness a member's-only board? After all, it's where we're most active, so showing it to visitors would give them a better idea of the size of the forums.

Because by request from several members, the member's picture's thread was made for only members eyes only. And it's an incentive to join to view the member's only threads.

But ... they don't know the member's-only forums are there before they join. Or at least, I can't see them when I'm not logged in. confuse

Can you make them shown, but not viewable (if that makes any sense), or maybe make a note - in the banner or sth - with "Join up to view our member's-only boards!" ?

Sorry to nit-pick all the time when I can't even be a normal contributor to the forum.

They know there are members only threads, i've made those visible to users viewing the main page but they can't gain access to them. Trust me, I've had tripled checked the privilages I've given and I've even logged out myself, come bac fifteen minutes later (it's a cookies thing Sparklit has) and tried to gain access to them myself as a visitor. It just tells you to register or to log in. Now there are two subforums that no one but the mods and I can see ourselves.
I've tried doing the second point with the news banner, only to learn that the news banner is for members only eyes. And if I put it in the banner, that means we all are going to see it. I don't have the option to show different banners with visitors and memmbers.
Nah, that's ok. Feedback is good.

Huh. My computer must block the cookies or something. My bad, then, never mind.

Can I ask something to everyone here?

Do you think that the new banner holds religious content and purpose?

I had to ask that because there has been a misinterpretation between Modmother and myself about the meaning of the new banner. I originally just wanted a moonlight-black-and-blue theme to it.

And I thought (before the base image, a Nightwish cover) was shown to me, the image was religious in some form.

Let me explain.

The 'Dove' on the right - bird of Peace/Holy Spirit in scripture. The child in centre image - surrounded by illuminated beams of light - again, Holy Spirit/God. The stars behind the word Quills, while matching our celestial backdrop, adds to this starry sky of Heaven. I'm way off obviously but that's the first thing I thought when I saw it. And while the backdrop is cool, when you put this altogether, we lose the big black cat for the most part and the screen is dominated by the planet and stars... As I said to Jack, my original thought 'Are we promoting ourselves as some kind of quasi-religious writers group?' *lmao*

That's where the above comment comes from.

Thoughts, people?

I don't mind. Everyone can interpret it the way they want, because it doesn't SAY any of those things anywhere. I'm quite sure a lot of people here know Nightwish anyway.

Now, I got a suggestion. Give people the chance to decide their titles. The VIP, Senior member and all those can still be there, but I know some people want to refine that text themselves.

I'm not 100% sure about this. Not sure what it's like at LPP, but at the previous forums custom user titles came with elite status which was itself decided upon by the moderators and staff, and given to those who for the most part warranted it through continuous quality post count, helpful members, or those that generally stood out from the pack in some positive way. I think if we hand this out the titles would not only become messy but confusing to newer members. If you're referring specifically to only VIP, Seniors etc, then it's something we can discuss.

At the moment as it stands Jack created the current system that for around every 250-500 posts I think a member goes up another level and gets another icon added to their profile. We had discussed other means, like custom titles, back in the very beginning, but as it stands I think it's still premature. Things like this should be metted out in due process - not to sound all tyrannical but it shouldn't be a right but a privelage. Think of it this way, if we hand out all sorts of perks to everyone what do those standout citizens warrant (as in Member of the Month etc) and what does everyone in general have to strive for?

On another note, perhaps those that reach a certain status can decide their custom titles as Jack and I do currently. So far we (and probably you) have the ability to change anyone's custom title for them. If you're reffering to those of higher status right now do you mean they as a body collectively (say all Senior members for example) decide on what they want to be called collectively instead of Senior Member, and VIPs likewise etc?

As I said I think if we allow everyone to utilize this from the start of membership would be a little... premature. We need to encourage the collective to work to some degree to a positive result. Yes posting a lot warrants spiffy new symbols under usernames but I think for certain things only those that trully deserve it should get that extra bonus that not everyone else just gets. Just my two cents anyway =)

And as for the header, quite personally I preffered the old one, the one with the collums. It was simple but nice. And black fits into most colour schemes. Didn't leave much room for over- or under- interpretation. Just voicing my opinion since it was brought up.

I have a suggestions. Ummm what if we put something tell us all whose birthday is coming up. You know that way no one will feel kinda ignored. So what do you think?

@ Lupito - Not sure if you have it or not, but try looking at your profile page. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen beneath your whiteboard. A calender should be there. It is in mine =)

EDIT: I have checked a few other non-ModSquad members pages and don't see it, so it's possible the feature's not there for everyone. Will have to see what Jack can manage when she returns thumbsup.gif

@ Lupito. Go to your profile, scroll down. It should be at the very bottom of the page. I don't think you can view it on other member's pages that are not moderators.
I took a screenshot to see what it should look like (reminds me of another thing to do):

I did have the calander option in the menu bar but I took it away.
And to address the issue of the custom titles, it's a privilage not a need.

Alright, alright.

I just thought we could've worked it out this way; a member asks for his/her title to be changed, and then an admin/mod approves it and changes it. And there's really no way a new user could get confused because the icons are there to indicate the user level, aren't they? It's just a matter of do users want that option in my opinion. Anyhow, since I'm kind of alone here against you two lol, let's just decide it this way - whenever the "elite" takes off, they and they only have the right to ask for a title change. Fair enough?
