Over the next couple of days,  please be advised that me (Admin/Jack/Sarah/Pebbles/shemale) will be experimenting with some new themes with this place in order to 'vamp up' this place. I am going to make a separate thread for suggestions concerning ONLY the construction of the 'new' Quills, any other suggestions keep them to Modmother's already established thread. So please don't freak when you see new themes being put on and off here, as I'm doing some experimentation at the moment.

I have a thread about this in ModLounge, not for the general public. The only general thread was about a site logo or some such. YOU have a thread for suggestions you created in FAQ and Feedback. You may want to redirect where it's appropriate. Just a thought ;)

I have to say I really don't like this new layout. The red is fine, but the white is just... too plain. When I first logged in about half an hour ago, I thought someone had hacked the site or something. biggrin I'd like to see more darker colors and themes such as the previous layouts, but this isn't really the thing I'm good at, so I better leave this whole design matter to you two (and Jojo, of course).

I like the red background, but I agree, not so much on the white. It's kinda bright and it doesn't fit with all the previous looks. The one I liked best so far had the dark red background with tree and white birds. The combination of colors worked really well.

This was something I did a couple weeks ago, mainly because I've been thinking of starting a forum myself this summer, and I was using Quills as a sort of template of how I would organize stuff. Like I suggested before, we could make Quills a place for creative people of all kinds. As a writer myself, I know a little better what's profitable for writers, but I don't for the other two categories. Anyhow:

Muscician's Studio-
-Band Discussion (fuse 'Music News' and 'The Stereo')
-Your Local Bands

Writer's Cove-
-Book Discussion
-Writerly Discussion (swapping tips and tricks, etc.)
-Your Babies (stories, lyrics, poetry, what-have-you)

Graphical Geniuses-
-"Real" Artist Discussion
-Graphic Novel\Comic Book Discussion??
-Original Art

The Rec Room-
-TV Show Discussion (including anime)
-Sports Channel
-Gamer's Paradise
-Random Inc.

Private Forum-
-The Dark Side
-Journals
-Introduction\Tell Us About Yourself! (would include the member's pics thread)
-Jack Talks

Site Talk-
-Announcements
-FAQs & Feedback

Like I said, just sketchy ideas. Since I decided I couldn't run a forum myself, I abandoned it, but I thought it might be worth sharing.

I think we need to get rid of the yellow, but that's just me - I hate yellow. But it IS kinder on the eyes than the black... unfortunately ;)

The icons we have (hearts, thumbsup, smilie faces etc) are a tad juvenile - I think we can do a lot better. But the red background is nice, it's simple, can't fault that. Gives us something to work around at least. It's a start...

^ Hahah, thanks aww.gif

I'm just curious here; why post these sorts of things in a mods-only board? Obviously it's up to y'all in the end, but shouldn't the other members have their opportunities to speak up?

Well I was kind of thinking that since all the ideas are still very plain this early on (at least mine are), it would be for the best if we three just dealt with them first, developed them and discussed about them before showing them to the rest of you. Don't worry, the whole forum will eventually participate in deciding which changes will be made and what they will look like, not to mention what they will bring to the site. wink.gif

It's worth noting Jon2 and I have been working along similar lines as far as the ideas process goes so between us if nothing else there's a fair sense of consistency. The idea behind all of this talk is to generate general ideas from site members to see if they come up with ideas that we haven't thought of yet. It is true that for the most part we, the ModSquad, and Jack of course, will do the behind-the-scenes stuff and to some degree have our say. The final say of course rests with the members but in order to get to that part there's a world of little details we need to sort through first - so when that happens, you (the members) will know about it biggrin.gif

As for Jess becomming new Moderator. That's something we have to discuss in the appropriate place. The only real downside to this proposition of course if Jess' availability. Like I said, we'll see what happens. Never say never.

And thanks for the link Jess. Appreciated =)

So, yeah, this thread is pretty much being ignored.

Were it to matter, I would make another suggestion. The quote, reply, edit, etc. buttons on the tops of our posts interfere with the text sometimes when they pop up. Mightn't it be beter to just have them there permanently instead of only when the cursor is over that post?

Agreed Jess - will ask Jack if there's a way to keep them there instead of how it functions now.

And for the record this page is not being ignored. Problem is it's practically a duplicate of other threads (as it stands I think we have 3 in some fashion or another all going at once about this generally speaking - Jack repeats herself sometimes in this way, good intentions and all... but no matter) - I did like the red and black and white too, wasn't bad. And I much prefered the yellow to these white text boxes. I didn't like the purple and blue mix, or blue and red - I guess I'm more of a 'traditionalist' - I like a sense of unity - not necessarily monochromes but at least something that brings the whole 'design' together and so far nothing we've seen yet has worked for me. Here's hoping... wink.gif

Sorry if I came across as annoyed. It's just that I made my suggestion three days ago and still hadn't gotten a response yet. I was rather peeved.

No probs Jess, trust me, I hear you. Just because I'm a mod it doesn't mean I too can make things magically happen - we all have certain limitations to work to. But yes, I should have gotten back to you sooner - sincerest apologies for that. You have been read and responded to now. Hope that de-peeves you just a fraction wink.gif

No Jess, your post was never ignored. I just never saw a reason to reply since the concept was a lot like the one me and Rav have agreed on. wink I've been annoyed of the buttons since the day they were changed to non-permanent, and I'd love them to be changed back. It just looks rather un-professional to me when the text suddenly pops into another row, and some new users might actually find it confusing. As for the background, I think I preferred the green one Jack experimented with yesterday. It looked bright and refreshing compared to the darker themes we've had. Then again, maybe it's just because I'm used to it from LPP. Blue just seems too plain, so I agree that the yellow might actually be the best solution.

I really feel like we should merge some of these threads, it's getting a bit hard to follow and update this way.

*double-post, sorry*

To make it more easier to follow, I have now merged the two threads. While some posts seem a bit confusing now, the over all development of ideas and such is easier to see now and hopefully this way we will also be more productive. smile.gif

You could've responded simply so I'd know I wasn't talking to thin air *grumble*

Anyhow, thanks for merging the threads. Give my little mind a bit less to confuse itself with smile
