Song that started you on your favorite bands

For me ...

NIN-
The Hand That Feeds. Played it like crazy on Rockband, got With_Teeth, one thing led to another. Now look at me. Completely corrupted.

Shinedown-
Burning Bright. The only one I liked at all at first, but once I really listened to the others, I was sold. You could also say it was Second Chance, as it was that song that make me shiver.

Korn-
Falling Away From Me. Heard it on the radio, found I my bro had it, decided to get all of Issues ... the Follow the Leader ... and now I want the rest.

Disturbed-
I'm Alive. I'd heard Stricken and thought it was just okay, but when I was playing Halo with my bro and he was listening to Disturbed, and this one came on - instant ohwowmusthave moment.

And you?

The White Stripes - The Denial Twist started me off and then I realised I had heard of their other songs like Blue Orchid and My Doorbell. I remember watching that video in Year 11 and thinking myself Are these guys on drugs or something? a very bizarre film clip to The Denial Twist indeed but didn't really get into them until Year 12.
Lacuna Coil - Two songs started me off with them, Our Truth (my favourite to date) and Unspoken. I found them through a CD that my friend gave me in Year 12.
Nightwish - I must admit they were really hard to get into because of the opera sound to Tarja's voice but after a while Wish I Had An Angel got me in pretty quickly to the point where I saw them live months after getting into them at the end of Year 11.
Smashing Pumpkins - My brother I blame for this one for showing me the video clip to Bullet With Butterfly Wings which in the end is my favourite song by them. Christ. I was in primary school when I saw that film clip for the first time.
Placebo - I'm not entirely sure how I managed to get into these guys, but I was given the single of Every Me Every You for Christmas once in Year 10 from my brother and I think that's what started me with them.

Linkin park - Faint/In the End/ Somewhere I belong

I heard these songs in a row and was amazed, I loved the chorus, the lyrics, the "nu-metal" style when I was a kid. Absolutely! :D

Dream theater - Honor thy Father, Octavarium (both song + cd). I heard their guitar and drum solo's, their lyrics, their drum solo's and...Wow, vocals and bass too. Everything really about them when I first heard them!

It takes more than one song to get me, but after a few, I grow attached!

Disturbed - 'Shout 2000', believe it or not. I heard it at work and was like WTF?! (Oh and 'Violence Fetish' - I was like "did he just say, 'I wanna get psycho? Wow, what a nut-job") I didn't like it. I hated Disturbed (not hate, I just didn't appreciate them) for quite some time. Blame my friend and old work colleague for starting me off on this merry path. Yay for finally seeing the light, I say. Spent many many months (almost 5 years) listening to them grind away in the background during rushhour at work and their 'anger' was infectious. It's energetic. It's inspiring. I heard 'Darkness' and argued it couldn't be the same lead singer. She proved me wrong. I'm glad she did. Else I' be wearing this logo on my back for no good reason now would I? Now 'Indestructible' is my themesong. It's how I see myself (or wish I was). When you see this band perform live you can't help but love it. Can't, he won't let you, man's as commanding on stage as he is in the stereo...

Linkin Park - 'One Step Closer'. Ahh the good old days. There's something cathartic about screaming 'shut up! shut up!' to a cool rhythm. I still enjoy their old sound. Yes they've matured, as expected, and I appreciate them for their many directions and ceaseless efforts to keep progressing - kind of like Madonna and her infinate 'look' she keeps 'reinventing' (anyone order a side of sarcasm with their meal?) but hey, when all's said and done the guys are still sentimental favs for me. OSC is timeless. Shame much of the new stuff isn't.

Rob/White Zombie - 'Dragula'/'More human than human' - what's not to like about this guy, seriously? Terrifying and brilliant (or just terrifyingly brilliant) his music has more layers than... hell, I can't even think of a befitting analogy it's that good. Have been a fan for ages. The movies are a whole other matter, but the music... yep. MHTH; very motivational music I say.

Nine Inch Nails - 'Closer'. You knew I was gonna say that weren't you? Well yeah, it is THE ultimate... intimate song. And let's face it Trent's not hard on the eyes either. But I really got heavily into NIN around 15-16 when I was a different, angry, frustrated person. Thing is I can still relate to it now some 15-16 years later (yes it's been that long) and if that's not a mark of pure talent/genius then I dunno what is. Man needs more recognition than he gets, that's for sure.

Static-X - 'Cold'. QoTD soundtrack. Then I discovered Start a War (the album - actually Lisa again introduced me to it) and I've been into their sound since. Only really enjoy that album though. Wayne Static is cool. Weird but cool. Nuf said, really.

Slipknot - 'Psychosocial'. So I didn't catch on to this band until they called it quits (again) but I have to say unlike LP (sorry guys) they get better with age... musically. Seeing them live really tipped me over the edge into liking them as a band, to be honest I still relaly love their latest stuff, the rest I don't really care too much for save for 'Heretic Anthem' and such. Adore 'Snuff' - one of the best songs I've heard in years. And any band with this sound and that many drummers at once has got to be a great thing! Corey and Stonesour, hmm, not so much. It's okay I guess but... I'd rather hear 'Sulfur' anyday frankly.
