Name Origin:
Draiman then joined the band (Brawl) in 1996 and he re-named the band Disturbed. When asked in an interview why he decided to re-name the band Disturbed, Draiman said, "It had been a name I have been contemplating for a band for years. It just seems to symbolize everything we were feeling at the time. The level of conformity that people are forced into was disturbing to us and we were just trying to push the envelope and the name just sorta made sense."
Frontman David Draiman has a voice you either love or hate. Known for his throaty and recognisable grunts and such before songs, it's quite coarse at times, then melodic in others (notably 'Darkness'). A friend introduced me to them while I was in the latter years of my Linkin Park phase. I've known of them for a few years, but it was only recently (especially after seeing a live show last year) that I really became a hardcore convert. Their live show was great, but David's stage presence was just amazing. That was what really swung me; the man has such an intensity I have yet to parrallel at least in a concert. I'm not as into the rest of the band, even at my age I admittedly suffer from some degree of fangirlism, but I simply adore the music and they just get better and musically richer every year. I'm a fan. I have a $500 tattoo of the Believe logo on my back, I'd better be ;)

You got the heading right XD I don't mind Inside the Fire (despite the fact that I make up words to it) and Stricken. One of the guitarists looks like someone off Children of Bodom.

I remember the first time I sawe the clip for Inside the Fire (the suicide version, there's 2 versions) and I showed my friend Mel who freaked out! That was funny in a sadistic way, but yeah, I like that song too. Radio-made almost. Pity most of the songs I like of theirs will never make it to air-time. Thank god I have a really good sound system. Nothing like Indestructible cranked up to 11 on the stereo to annoy the suburban housewives and little innocent kiddies living all around me *lol*

They were in my top 5 for a long time, but recently I haven't been that much into them. I got introduced to them last Spring, as one of my internet buddies showed "Prayer" to me. I loved The Sickness and Believe - never really got into Ten Thousand Fists except for a few tracks, and Indestructible was once again awesome. Favorite song: Numb, simply amazing, the blend of soft, industrial verses and the breakdown-ish heavy metal chorus is flawless, not even mentioning the bridge... /,,/

"We’ve never tried to come off as better than our fans, our fans... when they come to see us play, they’re actually a part of, you know, us playing. Sonny, the way he is on stage, he connects with them, emotional and in every kind of way you can imagine, you know, musically, and I think that they can see that it’s not, you know, a put on, it’s not something that’s fake, it’s real." - Mark Daniels of P.O.D.
I actually like them but not because they are from Chicago, Illinois lol. Never will hate them at all. They're the type of band that'll never stop doing what they're doing. I've known them because of the song "Down With The Sickness" and then "Forsaken". I like DWTS better tho! Never will stop headbanging to the heavy part. Then from their it was "The Game", "Ten Thousand Fist", "Land Of Confusion" "Decadence", "Stricken"....and I think that's all. Also their new album is good. I've listened to it for 2 days straight! I just....lost the cd :(. I also like how they did the cover for Metallica's "Fade To Black" which is really nice! Never will stop listening to his voice man.

Well, devilsnight2003, it sort of depends on what your other musical tastes are like. If you want it heavy, definitely go with Indestructible. If you want a well-balanced album, get Believe. And, if you want a politically charged record, go with Ten Thousand Fists. I wouldn't recommend any separate songs though, just get one of those albums. Oh and yeah, Music As A Weapon is pretty good too, it's their live album (and it's also what got me into Ünloco ).

I have a varied taste from Manson to Mozart depends on my moods and what i'm doing. The few songs i have from the Ten Thousand Fists album do kinda lead me to thinking i might well enjoy the rest of the album but i'm kinda looking to narrow it down to 1 album to go out and get but i hate when i buy an album due to hearing 1 or 2 songs and hating the rest of it or just listening to those two songs

Oh I see, you're not one of those download freaks like I am...
Even though I don't like Ten Thousand Fists, it doesn't mean you won't. It does include my second favorite Disturbed song, Overburdened.

Well, me too, but the problem with that is that I live through music (for real) and with my money I can't really afford buying new records every week. Forgive me, please...

i might buy an album a year or summit like that, i tend to steal it off my friends... ooo, that looks interesting *pinch*, i forgive you. Im sure the record companies might not though lmao.
I'll probably go with Ten Thousand Fists but ill wait for an opinion from Ravyn before i commit to anything :), Cheers for the opinion, much appreciated

As far as the record labels go, I could go on about them and their current state for hours...

Funny, David (Draiman) himself has been rather outspoken (and caused something of a sh*t storm with his own record company) when he shared his views on people getting upset about downloads. To quote (again) Wikipedia;
Draiman became involved in the music file sharing controversy by publicly speaking out against the RIAA's lawsuits against file sharing individuals, despite the fact his record label is a member of the RIAA.
"This is not rocket science. Instead of spending all this money litigating against kids who are the people they're trying to sell things to in the first place, they have to learn how to effectively use the Internet. For the artists, my ass...I didn't ask them to protect me, and I don't want their protection."
Draiman also told NYRock:
"[I'm] Very positive about the internet, Napster. I think it's a tremendous tool for reaching many more people than we ever could without it. When you release music you want it to be heard by people. Artists really want to have their music heard. They want to have their creation heard by people. Nothing is going to do that better than Napster. I can't tell you how many kids have come up to me and said, 'I downloaded a couple of tunes off Napster and I went out and bought the album.' Or they say, 'I want to come see you play.' I don't really make money off of record sales anyway."
As for Downloads, it's worth noting I do not OWN an actual bought CD! I know, scary huh? One of my best friends DOES religiously buy all Disturbed stuff, and I get to borrow them, or download, whichever takes my fancy (in my defence, it's the merch I spend on, shirts, posters, etc - the body art being the most expensive - and permanent!). So as for the albums, yes I own them all, and I have to say I agree with Jon2, what you might like really probably does depend on your mood. On one end of the spectrum you have songs like 'Darkness' in which David actually sings and it's quite simply beautiful and melodic and not what you'd expect from such a trademark 'gritty' voice. Then, on the other end, you have things like 'Hell' or 'Ten thousand Fists' or for a more (and I hesitate to use the term) 'energetic' sound remixes like 'Stupify' that was featured on the Little Nicky soundtrack which sounds more like a dance track than a rock one - but still quite good!
As for favourite albums, that for me is easy. As the band progresses, so too does their sound. When 'Believe' came out I wore that album out to death (no joke, I went through 2 copies before the next album gave me some respite!) and when 'Ten Thousand Fists' came out, same thing again. Now I do have an affinity with 'Indestructible' because it's the only album I've seen them perform live (somewhat) so that sways my judgement a bit. But personally I ADORE their heavier, darker sound, and Indestructible would probably have to be their heaviest to date so far on the whole.
Fav tracks I'd recommend to anyone considering Disturbed; 'Indestructible,' 'Inside the Fire,' 'Darkness,' 'Ten thousand fists,' 'Criminal,' 'Deciever,' 'This Moment' (Transformers Strk), 'Facade,' 'Shout 2000' (TfF cover), 'Midlife Crisis (FNM cover),' 'Prayer,' 'Deify,' 'The Sickness,' 'Mistress,' and my god there's probably a hundred more, but they're just the ones that spring to mind this very second. Ask me again later, I reckon you'll get a new answer ;)
Hope some of that gave you some ideas. And if you ever want a track to listen to, just ask. Am sure we can maybe work something out. When it comes to file-sharing and getting the music out there, David already said he doesn't mind *lol*
The scary part is that I've already read that entire wikipedia article. Twice, I think.
Lessee, my favorite songs would be Bound, Intoxication, Mistress, The Game, Want, Down With the Sickness, I'm Alive, Pain Redefined, Ten Thousand Fists, The Curse, Haunted, and Criminal.
What, I limited myself to three per album...give a girl a break.
*lmao* You did far better than I did then, I'm greedy with the tunes, man! Can never get enough of that wonderful... band. Hahaha.
As for the article, I know I could have been more detailed in posting it here, or even original and written a blurb myself, but let's face it, this is not a lecture hall. If people want detailed info they know where to look. Just spreading the love is all. Have to. That's what a good fangirl does, isn't it?
hahahahahaha *ahem* (sorry, sorry... back to Mod mode now) *insert serious face*
**First and ONLY time Ravy gets to "experiment" with that smilie. This stuff is illegal in public for a reason.

^ *lols* That's a good Jess. You already know me way too well it seems... Hahaha.
I've considered whether or not to post this here or create a separate thread - but because it's still on topic, and I have mentioned it above, I thought why the hell not. This is my latest work of art to show my 'support' for the band;
(Most folks of LPF would have seen it, but for the rest it's.... something different I suppose)
Nice tattoo! I haven't considered taking one myself (I couldn't with my age anyway lol) but if I were to take one someday, I wouldn't mind the Believe logo.
