Member of the Month. Member that deserves site-wide recognition. Someone with quality posts and is a general all-round great benefit to the Quills community.
Do you, the Quills public, want such a competition on this site?
While we, the staff, have discussed the idea back and forth since the site began months ago now, we've yet to really see it swing into full gear. There's no real prizes up for grabs, but we've proposed, as in previous sites, a custom made banner to go under the winning member's sig for the duration of the month. It's a small token of appreciation for those that really deserve it, if nothing else
So the question is, do you want to see and be part of it?
If YES - do you have any suggestions you think you could add that might make this 'friendly' competition more interesting for you or in general? What would you like to see happen with it? Would you like winners to be given special privelages for the month, get a spiffy custom title, or something else?
And if NO - again, any reason why not?
No, none of this is compulsory, we're merely asking because we want to see what you the rest of the Quills Community think - part of our 'trying to keep the community in the loop unlike other sites' point of view we here have behind the Quills scenes
And remember, any constructive feedback is much appreciated and thanks once again for your participation
A definite yes. I have no idea about the prize though. Maybe a rank the member can decide him/herself? A V.I.P. account? No idea. I don't think it should be hyped anymore than the way it is right now, it's not like supposed to be this big contest anyway. Just something in the side while making sure this is a friendly community.

Member of the Month (in the past) recieved a cool little banner to put in her/his signature (as said before in the first post as I just realised). VIP status' can only be reached once reached a certain number of post counts (1,000 off the top of my head but pretty sure it is that).
I have thought about introducing an 'Elite' scheme but our numbers aren't that much so I don't see that going down well with a possible backlash of risking "playing favourites" amongst members. I have thought about introducing a member of the month private forum but yet again, not so good idea.

I like the Member of the Month idea. Maybe it would give people just a little more of a compulsion to post worthwhile stuff - I mean, most of Quills' activity is in the games forum. Then again, without any set subject, maybe they don't know what to post *shrug* I'm offtopic aren't I.
A shmancy little banner for one's sig sounds like a nice enough prize to me. Anyway, it's a resounding YES from this Quiller.
I actually forgot to use my banner when I was selected for March. [/offtopic]
Now that I think of it, maybe we should start a referal contest of some sort, which would last for a month, and then after that's finished we could try the Member of the Month thingy (maybe we could even test it by awarding the user with the most referals with the title), that is if the contest succeeds and we get lots of more users. With a community as small as this I honestly (after doing some reconsideration) think we shouldn't draw this thing yet.

^ Sounds fair. But wasn't much of the drive (promotion) behind this place initially done at the very beginning in the first few weeks/month of this place starting? Would a second wave do anything if the first wave of promotion did relatively little? It's an option I suppose. No harm in trying. And while I know a small 'competition' isn't enough to warrant new interest in itself, what do we really offer that makes people want to enlist? My point is can't both run simultaneously?
A lot of members are from 2 main previous forums and we've 'merged' to some degree. Jess is right, much of our activity focusses in the random thread and to a lesser degree member journals. It's one issue with being a General all-ages forum - we have no one commonality that unites us, but we have so many minor things that it's hard to know just how to 'promote' this site in an enticing and interesting way. I think we need to promote the site of course, always, but we need to award the members we already have here FIRST because they are the backbone of this community. True that at the moment/lately things have skidded a bit with everyone suddenly being busier in their offline lives than spending it on here, but if we can't maintain some kind of status quo before we bring in for example a fresh wave of noobs, what are we fighting to promote?
Well, sounds like the first step in all this would be to choose a more central topic for Quills. That's up to Jack, of course. But I had thought that it could be geared toward creative people - writers, 'graphixers', and musicians? Then we could bill it as a creative forum instead of just general discussion.
Anyway, I really think this is something for another thread, and we should keep this one purely for talking about the Member of the Month thing. So I shall stop derailing now.
I like the idea of having Member of The Month.I have one thing to talk about:Maybe if this idea is used, all the people for the sake of being Member of the Month, posting good quality posts, thus making this competitive. That's why I like this idea.
One suggestion:Make the prize more attractive to the people.
@ Jess: I agree. Even if this board would turn into something like that, an art forum, the random stuff could still be there - it would only make the creative stuff come in the front. It would be definitely easier to promote the site at least if we had a proper theme.
@ Speedy: Yeah, but what prize? We kind of need ideas on that one, so please, feel free to suggest.

Just my humble opinion =)
I don't know about you but I'm still promoting the boards. Probably as not as much as I used to but still doing a lot of it. I saw how quickly LPF went downhill and how easy ATLien gave up on it. I'm not going to be that sort of admin, I can tell you for sure.
