P.O.D. is a band from San Diego, California. They were formed in 1991 (!) and are still making new music, with When Angels & Serpents Dance (2008) being their latest effort. Most people should know them by the album Satellite (2001) and hit singles such Alive and Youth of the Nation. They're my favorite band and a constant inspiration.
So, anyone else into them?

"We’ve never tried to come off as better than our fans, our fans... when they come to see us play, they’re actually a part of, you know, us playing. Sonny, the way he is on stage, he connects with them, emotional and in every kind of way you can imagine, you know, musically, and I think that they can see that it’s not, you know, a put on, it’s not something that’s fake, it’s real." - Mark Daniels of P.O.D.
I don't really know them, but saw them in concert last year supporting Disturbed's Music as a weapon tour in Brissy. 'Youth of the Nation' I like. My god, that song went off live. Almost better than the studio version ;)
Now I'm jealous lol, I've never seen them live (though, that's mostly because they never go to Europe anymore these days). I do own all of their live albums (3) and I know that they kick ass live - not so much for the accuracy, but the energy is always there, not to mention the way they take their audience and take care that no one gets hurt.
If you like Youth of the Nation, I recommend listening to "It Can't Rain Everyday" from their new album, it's very similar and has the same type of lyrics. :)
My favorite songs include such as Southtown, Set It Off, Roots In Stereo, Sounds Like War, Wildfire, Asthma (I miss the Truby era ), Outkast and Know Me. I've only been a fan of them for about 4 years, but I'd consider myself a hardcore one, simply because of all the passion I have for them and the way they have influenced me.

I've known them because of their song Alive. Then from their it was You Of A Nation and Will You. I actaully like almost all the songs I know. I own When Angels & Serpents Dance. One song I'll never get tired of is Rock The Party (Off The Hook). I've never seen them live at all but I wouldn't mind! But I think their sound changed..but that's me. Maybe it's because they left Atlantic Records. I don't know but their new album good IMO. But yeah I mostly got into them because of the song Alive when I was a kid. Plus since they are hespanic I had this thing that if there was band that was hespanic I'd like them automaticlly!
Sure they have changed, one of the things I most love about P.O.D. is that each of their albums are different and thus unique. Plus, I don't know a single band out there that would combine rock, metal, rap, reggae, punk, funk and Christian music with equal passion. :)
Their self-titled, Payable On Death, is a must for anyone who is a fan of Will You, because that song is from that album and the whole record is very similar.

I mean I wouldn't mind getting it but I rather buy it on the Zune market. But then again I'm not sure. I mean I don't want to spend gas to go to the store and find out they don't have it you know what I'm saying? But hey I've been a P.O.D. fan well....since Alive came out!!! LOL
Um, yeah... I'm really struggling here to be objective, because now I'm starting to feel like it's my responsibility if you waste your money! Lmao, jk. I guess I recommend that you read some reviews first if you're not sure, since most of the ones I've read have been positive.

^Yes, and they're far away from P.O.D. The vocals are less passionate, the guitars are way less diverse than Truby and Marcos are by their style, and Wuv is the best drummer of his genre in my opinion so no talk about that. Not even mentioning that they rip P.O.D. off in some of their stuff. I like them though, just not nearly as much as P.O.D. Everyone has their own taste, so good for you if you found them (Pillar)

They really are quite similar bands when you look deep into the music. It comes down to the basic building blocks of genres. POD may have influenced Pillar but that isn't a rip off... Unless you want to call Deftones are a rip off of Depeche Mode.
My porblem with POD (I found this after listening to Pillar) is that songs that should get you reved up really don't. Take for example Boom. I swear it's supposed to have some energy to it (Hence the chorus) but really, I don't feel it. Other then that their lyrics are mostly good. I would love to see them live at some stage just to see if they can create much energy within their crowd.

For one, Pillar is mostly pop/rock, Christian rock and rapcore, while P.O.D. alternates within such genres as Christian metal, alternative metal, reggae, hip-hop, post-grunge and punk. I know ripping off might sound a bit harsh, and they probably haven't done it intentionally, but take Celestial and Elysian for example. Basically the same riff, Pillar just uses some extra notes here and there - but in the end, it's the same basis. Behind Closed Doors has a very similar vibe to Boom also.
As far as not feeling the energy on some of the P.O.D. tracks, let me ask you, which albums do you have? Because I do agree with such songs as Boom, but if you take a listen at their older stuff like Brown and Snuff The Punk, there's nothing else but energy out there.
Sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass, but my love for P.O.D. forces me not to be as objective as normally on stuff like this.

No it's cool. I love your passion for POD! It's great that you have a band you love so much (unlike me, I used to but not anymore). It's always great for a music lover such as myself to come across such a connection!
The same basis you say? Makes them similar. Similarity was my point. No they are not completely the same and my original words were "moderatly similar" which means only to a certain extent ar ethey similar. In fact the person who introduced me to Pillar said "They are like POD without the Reggae and a few other changes". I do see your point tohugh (whether it was that you took what I said the wrong way or whether you simply disagree with the point I made) and it is a valid one.
As for energy, I just don't feel it. I have the 5 most recent albums and to be honest it just doesn't do it for me. Perhaps, though, it may only ocme thorugh on live performances which I can imagine it would. Even Boom would be amazing live.
By the way, I respect the fact that they have been around so long! Longer then I thought! Good on them. Shows they have lasting power.
Also if you like Boom, wanna hear a song that's chorus is similar to a pathetic level? Ladies and Gentleman by Saliva! As much as I dislike Boom, I have to say... Saliva did a no-no...

Cool. P.O.D. was one of the first bands I REALLY got into, and even though I've come to like heavier stuff and have evolved a lot since then, they stay as my favourite. LP, on the other hand, was my number one before P.O.D., but lost that spot ages ago.
I think I misunderstood your previous post then. To me, being influenced by something is when you're inspired by another artist, and when too much similarities start to occour, you're either not being able to break free on your own from that influence or you're intentionally ripping someone off. As reggae and all those other things that make P.O.D. diverse are just what makes me love their music so much, Pillar (or any other band for that matter) just isn't able to fulfill such spot.
So, you got their 5 most recent albums... I assume they're FEOS, Satellite, Payable On Death, Testify and WA&SD? If that is the case, you definitely need to check the two albums I mentioned earlier along with either Payable On Death Live or Rhapsody Originals, which are both live albums. To me, P.O.D. is even more outstanding live than they're in the studio, and you just might have a point when you said that maybe that's why you're not feeling the energy.
As far as them being around for so long goes, I respect it aswell, but unfortunately, recently there have been rumours about a hiatus, which has been backed up by a low number of updating and Wuv's joining to Stillwell (a side project by Fieldy). They have had their share of everything though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up breaking it up soon.

They wont break up, and a hiatus could be a good thing. If they take a long break, they could come back all refreshed. Just wait and see, they'll be back.
Dunno, WA&SD lacked passion imo, and that lack of passion might just indicate that they're getting older and that the chemistry just isn't right even though Marcos is back... Sometimes I wonder what P.O.D. would sound like with both, Truby and Marcos as permanent guitar players.
