And for the record Speedy, I got it a few months back, maybe September last year, something like that, before we 'met' at the other site anyway. That would probably be why you hadn't seen it.

But back on topic now... wink.gif

I don't quite understand. Do you mean you were registered on at that time or you wish you had? Either way, it doesn't matter. And it's slowly wandering off the track, so as I said before back on topic please. Keep the posts relevant to the subject of the band / music - not the former site, thanks :)

Granted he's not everyone's type - but that's your prerogative.

I know this will make me sound like a douche bag critic who is purposly looking for faults in bands... But the noises David makes all the time are frustrating... Without them I could enjoy their music a lot more then I do... Just knowing one is coming makes me skip the song, even Down With The Sickness :o

^You shouldn't say that, everyone has their own opinion and it's safe to say that it's not for everyone especially with David Draiman, who has a unique voice with an even more unique way of performing it.

For example, I don't listen to Guns 'N Roses simply because I don't like the voice of Axl Rose, even though the music is good.

too true. what I want to know is, does he do it for a reason? Like is it meant to be what makes them unique as opposed to other bands in similar genres?

Pete I hear your questions and no I cannot answer them. I don't think anybody in this thread can answer your questions about David Draiman and give the correct answer. All I have to say on this matter is that isn't every band meant to sound unique to their sound?

^What she said. I assume that David did it on purpose at first, but now it just comes out automatically in his singing.

Thing is, they are unique even without his annoying noises. (And not all bands are unique and not all seem to try to be, the band Hey Moday... WTF?!?)

If you have different singer at a band that you listen to, they of course are going to sound unique. But get bands like Puddle of Mudd, Creed, Seether, Nirvana and Nickleback, sound somewhat alike to me honestly. And noises you're referring to that Draiman makes, is his voice? The singer of a band is the most prominate tool that defines if the band sounds different or if you just had the music of I don't know, i.e. Linkin Park and Placebo would be the same by themselves, which in all honesty, their tabs and style sound rather alike. And I've never listened to Hey Monday to be honest, have heard of them.

And I can't answer that either. It was probably a gimmick at the start and had probably 'evolved' into his 'trademark sound.' I'm not so sure. And I hear you little brother, its certainly not for everyone. But the thing is, as a fan, even if the music isn't there and you hear that 'sound' you immediately know who it is - love it or hate it. At the concert these sounds took on a different role. On stage David throws them at the audience like a demand - the purpose being we the crowd have to scream it back (and we did, I almost couldn't speak the next day XD) and in this way I think he and the band get a bit of a kick out of using them as well - as opposed to people just singing along to the songs, know what I mean?

Anyway yes, I'm probably going to find justification in all of it because I am a fan and not exactly what you'd call an objective third party on the matter (more a one-eyed supporter) but I guess like it has been suggested above it is the band's 'sound.' Yes, even to me who almost always has one of their albums on constant rotation, sometimes the same 'Hah! Hah!" screamed at 11 on the speakers can be a bit like a jackhammer to the forehead - and you know what, it works.

Another interesting facet to point out is that in the early days David had health problems in his ear/nose/throat and actually had to go in for surgery on a deviated septum (despite the fact he used to drink himself stupid and in his own words after a few days bender in Europe "trashed his voice"). This may explain it a bit too. But when you hear him speak it is quite coarse and throaty and gravelly and his singing (not harmony as in Darkness, but say The Sickness or Indestructible) those sounds aren't too far removed - just a hell of a lot louder (and more forceful). Maybe I'm reading into it a bit too much, but in a few recent interviews he has been quite irate and vocal about his political and social views - like any muso at the mo he's using his music as a voice of opposition or social commentary - and the fact the tour was called 'Music as a weapon (I & II)' should tell you something about where he and the band's coming from. So when you're a bit irate and frustrated you make noises. He makes them louder *lol* It's probably a very cathartic way from a singer's POV to get that energy level up before you break into an angry song or somesuch. Don't athlete's do it before going out onto the feild to psyche themselves up?

*strikes a thoughful pose*

See, told you I was known for overanalysing everything *lol*
